Rubber Practice Mute

The majority of rubber practice mutes are unbranded, and the details are quite varied. This practice rubber mute is applied by slotting the mute over the bridge to cover the whole bridge. As like the other rubber mutes, it may leave a black stain on the bridge over time.
The main feature of this mute is that it’s made to cover the whole bridge, but at the same time made to fit on the general shape of the violin bridge, meaning that it won't be a perfect fit for all violins. In the case of my instrument, either the G string side or E string side will be less muted.
For obvious reasons, you will need somewhere to keep the mute when not in use. It will not stay on the instrument without falling or rattling.
It seems to be most effective at suppressing the middle range (roughly 400 to 2000 Hz) than other ranges, which creates a slightly unbalanced tone throughout the spectrum. In the case of the lower register, the impression it gives is of being very balanced. There are moments it may sound coarse, but in general it is rather smooth, with not much acuteness in the sound. However, when it reaches the open D, every harmonic other than the fundamental is suppressed significantly making it sound similar to a sine wave but with a separate buzzing feel. The upper register is similar to other practice mutes but relatively round and slightly richer.
