Metal Practice Mute

This metal practice mute is constructed with chrome plated steel. As it is purely a block of metal, it is much heavier than any other mutes on the market. Therefore, if you happen to drop it off the bridge and it falls on the instrument, it will certainly cause damage.

The mute can be applied by slotting it over the bridge. The material is obviously very stiff so it would leave a dent on the bridge if it’s pushed on too hard. However, if you don't push the mute on properly, it does not provide a good muting effect.

For obvious reasons, you will need somewhere to keep the mute when not in use. It will not stay on the instrument without falling or rattling.

The sound it produces is very similar to a sawtooth wave, but with some width and depth in the sound. This is prominent over all ranges from bottom to top, and follows the general trend of the bottom being grainier and less so at the top. One point to note is that when this mute is applied, the instrument tends to have strong reverberant and vibration on the bow when you stop it. You may hear an extremely quiet high-pitched sounds remaining.
